The Gozo CCU Foundation enjoys a “Winter Interlude”
The Royal Lady Suite at the Grand Hotel Mgarr Gozo was the venue for this year’s ‘Winter Interlude.’ This annual fundraing event by the Gozo CCU Monitors Foundation has become very popular with the residents of Gozo and also with quite a number of people who travel from Malta to attend this function.
Talented Ruth Sammut Casingena together with the Journey Choir gave an outstanding and delightful performance which captivated the audience. Dancers Angelo Bonello, Pamela Kerr and Diane Portelli also gave a wonderful performance. Livia Massa a bright and talented 10 year old narrated a lovely poem about fairies.
During the lavish dinner, The Wallace Pipes and Drums once again provided the entertainment.
The Royal Lady Suite was a beautiful venue for this occasion and the food and service that Alfio Rapa and his staff provided was excellent.
During her welcoming speech, the Chairman of the Foundation, Dame Carmen Bellamy, mentioned that during the same week, the official inauguration of the Equipment that the Foundation has already provided was performed by the Minister Giovanna Debono. Chris Said was also present together with officials from the Ministry and the Gozo Hospital. A plaque to this effect was also unveiled.
Since its inception in October 2006, the Foundation with the support of all its benefactors has moved from strength to strength. Funds were raised to purchase, 8 Heart Monitors, a Central Station and printer, six electric beds and over the bed tables and special mattresses. A defibrillator was also provided to the A&E Department of the Gozo Hospital During the evening Carmen and her Committee surprised the audience with a brand new Defibrillator which was immediately passed on to the CCU Nurses who were attending the dinner. The purchase of defibrillators for the Gozo Hospital is essential as the ones in use at the present time are very old indeed, some are 30 years old. Now that the CCU Ward has been furnished with all this reliable new equipment by the CCU Foundation, one can see the difference that this has made to both patients and Nurses that work there.
The Foundation continues its fundraising efforts to provide the CCU/ITU Ward and other Departments of the Hospital, with further vital life saving equipment working closely with Nursing Staff, Consultants and Hospital Administrators.
Carmen and her Committee would like to extend their grateful appreciation to those who have supported and continue to champion the Foundation and its objectives.
