2007 was a notable year for the Gozo Critical Care Monitors Foundation Committee (CCU Foundation). Ably led by their Chairman Dame Carmen Bellamy, this small committee seems to have touched the “hearts” of benevolent Gozo and beyond.
The aim of the Foundation is to improve facilities at the CCU in Gozo General Hospital. The provision of vital machinery in this unit receives no government funding but Gozitans are not deterred!! In 2007 the generous help of local people (and overseas well wishers) has meant tha the unit has installed 3 monitors and a laser printer in 2007. These machines are leased from the Foundation (at no cost, of course!) and thus will remain in Gozo, where they should be, for the benefit of Gozitans and visitors. Wonderfully, in the first month of installations the machines had already been responsible for the saving of two Gozitan lives - what a fantastic return on everyone’s investment.
During the following months thereafter, Gozo had supported Barbeques, Concerts, Bazaars and Coffee Mornings run by the hard working Committee. Local companies have sponsored prizes, food, wine and local rare talents have provided the top quality concerts. After a Magical Christmas Concert given by the Attard family and Rita Dimech at Santa Lucija, it was announced that a forth monitor had been ordered and was due for installation by Christmas. Perfect timing for an upbeat boost for the wonderful staff at the hospital.
Thank you Gozo for your support in the past and your continued support in the future. Heart problems can attack anyone at any age and we all have the right of access to good quality machinery to augment the already highly skilled and caring medical staff in the CCU at Gozo General Hospital.
The CCU can be reached by phoning Dame Carmen Bellamy on 00 356 21 566496 or 00 356 79 566 496. Alternatively, she can also be reached by email.
“Have a Heart” and carry on supporting the Gozo CCU Foundation - for the sake of the entire Local Community and, maybe, YOURSELF.
